Before the 2026–2027 season, Sheffield Wednesday F.C. is planning a far more structured and rigorous preseason campaign in an effort to prevent a recurrence of last summer’s pandemonium.
The off-field unrest surrounding former owner Dejphon Chansiri significantly hampered the preparation for the previous season. Players were temporarily denied access to the Middlewood Road training facility, the team was left with a decimated roster, and the club was unable to host a single public preseason friendly.
But now that Arise Capital Partners LLC has taken control, there is a fresh sense of hope in the Hillsborough area. Manager Henrik Pedersen has already planned a rigorous summer program to make sure the team is ready for the upcoming season, as stability is now starting to return.
Pedersen, who took over for Danny Rohl just before the start of the previous season, acknowledged that last year’s preparations were far from perfect. However, the Danish coach wants a far more regimented and physically taxing approach this time.
The manager clarified on Wednesday that before friendly games are progressively added, the first few weeks of the preseason will be mostly devoted to fitness training. As the team develops rhythm and conditioning, players will first be subjected to rigorous training sessions, with match minutes being increasing each week.
After a challenging 2025–2026 season, Pedersen emphasised that the club must become “top, top fit” and recover the mindset required to win football games consistently.
Additionally, the manager intimated that preseason games will be carefully chosen to achieve the ideal mix between boosting confidence and putting the team to the test. In addition to exposing his players to difficult opponents, he wants to make sure they develop the habit of winning games again.
Following last week’s takeover and the growing optimism around the club, Sheffield Wednesday now see this summer as the beginning of a new era. After the turmoil of the previous campaign, the Owls know a strong and properly planned pre-season could be crucial in helping them move forward both on and off the pitch.
