Bryson DeChambeau has once again become the center of attention in the golf world after revealing the major conditions that could determine whether he ever returns to the PGA Tour. Speaking during LIV Golf’s latest event at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia, the former U.S. Open champion opened up about the growing uncertainty surrounding LIV Golf and his own future in professional golf.
The timing of DeChambeau’s comments could not have been bigger. The LIV Golf event marked the first tournament since reports emerged claiming Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) plans to stop funding the league after the current season. The shocking news immediately sent waves across the golf world and left many fans questioning what comes next for LIV players.
DeChambeau admitted he was completely stunned when he first heard the reports. According to him, everything he had previously been told suggested LIV Golf had long-term plans stretching all the way through 2032. Instead, the sudden shift felt completely unexpected and left even some of LIV’s biggest stars caught off guard.
As speculation over LIV’s future intensifies, attention has naturally turned toward the possibility of certain players rejoining the PGA Tour — and DeChambeau made it clear that his own return would depend on two major factors.
The first condition, according to DeChambeau, has nothing to do with executives or business deals. Instead, he believes the decision should ultimately come down to the PGA Tour players themselves. He openly stated that if the membership truly wants him back, then a return could absolutely happen. But if the players do not support it, he says he would understand.
His comments highlighted just how deep the divide between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour has become over the last several years. Since LIV launched, the sport’s biggest stars have been split into opposing sides, creating tension, damaged friendships, and constant debates across the golfing world. Few players have symbolized that divide more than DeChambeau, whose outspoken personality has always made him one of golf’s most polarizing figures.
The second issue DeChambeau raised involved content creation and media freedom during tournament weeks. The LIV Golf star argued that modern golf should embrace players creating digital content around events because it helps attract audiences and adds entertainment value to tournaments.
DeChambeau claimed he previously wanted to film videos with celebrities and content creators during PGA Tour events but believed Tour policies prevented him from doing so. According to him, those restrictions limited opportunities to connect with younger fans and grow the game in new ways.
However, the PGA Tour later clarified that players are currently allowed to create content during practice rounds and pro-am sessions under its social media rules, directly challenging part of DeChambeau’s claims.
Despite the controversy, there is one important reason why DeChambeau’s return to the PGA Tour feels more realistic than some other LIV stars. His current LIV contract is reportedly set to expire after this season, meaning he would not be tied to LIV events beyond 2026.
That flexibility could become extremely important, especially with uncertainty growing around LIV’s financial future. Reports suggest the massive long-term contracts many players once expected may no longer be possible if PIF funding truly disappears.
This situation separates DeChambeau from players like Jon Rahm, who remain locked into long-term LIV agreements for several more years and therefore have far fewer options moving forward.
Now, with questions surrounding LIV Golf’s future growing louder by the week, DeChambeau’s latest comments have only intensified speculation about whether one of golf’s biggest stars could eventually make a dramatic return to the PGA Tour.
For now, though, DeChambeau has made one thing very clear — any comeback will depend on whether the players themselves are willing to welcome him back.
